The Stark Area Regional Transit Authority says in 2012 it had the highest number of riders ever with almost 2.7 million, about a 9 percent increase from 2011.
The agency says it also had nearly 140,000 ride-by-appointment Pro-Line passengers in 2012, another record. That was also a 9 percent jump from 2011 when ProLine had about 128,000 riders.
In a statement, SARTA's Executive Director Kirt Conrad said the increases could be due to rising employment, higher gas prices in 2012 and the "hard work of all SARTA employees."
