Four students from Coventry Local Schools received Outstanding Achievement Awards at an awards program May 15 at St. George Fellowship Center in Akron. The award honors students with disabilities for their achievement in one of the following categories: academics, art, athletics, community service, employment, extracurricular activities and independent living skills.
Darrin Clites of Lakeview Elementary was nominated by Amanda Wood, cross-categorical teacher, in the category of Academics.
“He is a model student who displays good character and earns excellent grades,” said Wood.
Jesse Gunter of Coventry Junior High School was nominated by Rebekah Rothmel, tutor, in the category of Athletics.
“Jesse is an incredible young man who has become a great athlete and student that maintains above average GPA and all-around individual,” said Rothmel.
Jacob Chamberlin of Lakeview Elementary was nominated in the category of Academics by school psychologist Sarah Stephan.
“Jacob has worked hard this year to improve his academic abilities,” said Stephan. “Through his hard work, Jacob’s confidence level has also improved with both staff and his peers.”
Rachel Rooks of Lakeview Elementary was nominated by teacher Kathleen Parker in the category of Academics. “Rachel is achieving academically as well as on so many other functional, independent and communicative levels,” said Parker.
These students were among 49 in Portage, Summit and Medina counties to be honored.
