Senior Lake softball catcher Brier Sanner has announced her intent to attend Ohio Dominican University in Columbus and continue her opportunities playing softball in the fall of 2011.
Sanner is the second Blue Streak softball player to sign with a college program this school year. Jessica Crain signed with Malone University earlier in the fall.
Sanner was an Honorable Mention All-Federal League in 2010 and is currently batting .300+ for the Blue Streaks this season. She is one of the team captains.
Head Lake softball coach Julie Boyes said, “Brier is an outstanding leader. She gets people's attention with her skills, leadership, and command on the field. She has been instrumental to our team's success and I know she will carry those attributes to ODU. I am looking forward to watching her succeed in college and softball these next four years.”
Ohio Dominican University is an NCAA Division II softball program that is a member of the GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference). The Panther head coach is Marcella Vanlandingham. Starting in 2001, Vanlandingham guided ODU to a streak of eight consecutive American Mideast Conference titles, including Region IX titles and NAIA National Tournament appearances in 2002 and 2005. The Panthers have won 10 or more conference games in 13 of 14 seasons under Vanlandingham, including a perfect AMC mark of 14-0 and a school record 45 wins in 2005.
Brier is the daughter of Tammy and Ron Sanner of Hartville.
