Electric aggregation ballot language was approved by the Jackson Township trustees, moving an electric aggregation option closer to the Nov. 2 ballot.
Trustees also approved an agreement with with First Energy Solutions, Corp. The nine-year agreement is conditional upon a vote of residents.
John Crum, 15, was recognized by the trustees during the July 26 meeting. John, a member of Troop 921 from Church of the Lakes, earned his Eagle Scout award. His Eagle Scout project was building handicapped accessible picnic tables for Jackson Parks. John is the son of Rich and Dawn Crum.
Also honored was Steve Cindea, the Jackson police officer who developed the “Hooked on Fishing” program.
“Other communities have tried to model this program,” said Police Chief David Zink. “Several hundred students have participated in the program.”
“Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs” is in its 10th year in Jackson Township.
A certificate of appreciation was approved by the trustees for Mark Stevens. Stevens is retiring after 32 years of working in the highway department.
JD Striping and Services, Inc. was awarded the striping of 40 miles of township roads at a cost of $40,783.75.
Trustees approved the third installment of payment for work at Highmill and Lafayette. The disbursement comes from the Ohio Public Works Commission.
“The improvement provides better visibility,” said John Pizzino, the president of the trustee board.
A resident asked if a bush that obstructs vision at the intersection would be removed.
Road Director Ralph Boger explained plants and trees on the public right-away can be removed. Three other trees are on private property. The property owner will be contacted.
“When you spend that much money on an intersection to make it safe, it had better be safe,” said Boger.
The Highmill and Lafayette intersection improvement project is under budget and almost complete. Contractors are working on the wall currently, said Boger.
Randy Gonzalez, the fiscal officer, and Boger attended a meeting introducing electronic bidding over the web. Gonzalez said the new system would eliminate duplication of blueprints. Regional planning could enter into an agreement with the company offering the electronic option. It could be available to all governmental entities.
A notice was sent to the county auditor for a nuisance abatement for 6367 Portage St. Other notices for noxious weeds were sent to the county auditor in regards to 6629 Dale Ave. in Frances Acres, 7418 Knight St. in Cloverdale and 3911 Michael Dr. in Bel-Air Estates.

The next regular meeting of the Jackson Township trustees is Aug. 9. An executive session or a work session will begin at 4 p.m. The general session will begin at 5 p.m. at the township hall.
A joint public hearing with the city of Canton on Cooperative Economic Development Agreement (CEDA) is Aug. 9 at 6 p.m. at the township hall.
LOGIC will meet Aug. 5, 9 a.m. at the Safety Center, Chief’s Conference Room.
CIC will meet Aug. 16, 5 p.m. at the township hall.
The zoning commission will meet Aug. 19, 5 pm. at the township hall.
The Citizens Advisory Park Committee will meet Aug. 10, 6:30 p.m. at the township hall.
