Twenty-four hour emergency medical care and a health and wellness center is coming to the city of Green. On July 28, officials from Akron General Medical Center, the city of Green and Summit County gathered for a ceremonial groundbreaking on a 98,000-square foot facility on Massillon Road and Town Park Boulevard. The center will be similar to AGMC facilities in Stow and Bath.
“The city of Green is a very grateful city,” said Mayor Dick Norton, thanking AGMC for selecting Green as its third expansion sight. “We look forward to a bright future together.”
“This is a big day for the hospital,” said F. William Steere, the chairman of the AGMC board of directors. “We're very happy to be partnering with the Green. In 12 to 13 months, this property will be bustling with activity.”
The facility will provide Green, Jackson, Lake and neighboring communities access to a 24-hour emergency room. Other services will include radiology, a lab and sports medicine and physical therapy. The facility will provide three pools, one of which will be used by Green's swim team.
An additional 42,000-square feet will provide doctors' offices on the grounds.
“This will add 300 jobs in Green,” said Steere. “This is a huge, positive impact.”
However, Dr. Tim Stover, the president of AGMC's outpatient services, said, “My job as a provider is to work myself out of a job every day.”
He said the new facility will provide patients with healthcare, rehabilitation and lifestyle changes that will lead to recovery.
“Green is a natural for expansion,” said Stover. “We've been here more than 10 years and we're not done yet. We have more lives to touch.”
AGMC operates an office on Boettler Road. The new facility will offer expanded services that are currently provided by the Boettler Road office. Reflections Breast Health Center, radiology, the lab and the rehabilitation services will relocate to the new Massillon Road facility.
“We're excited to become an even bigger part of the community,” said William Feth, the chairman of Akron General Partners board of directors.
Stover said AGMC was the first hospital to bring outpatient healthcare to Green in 1997.
The facility will house a Health and Wellness Center as an extension of AGMC's nationally recognized LifeStyles fitness center. LifeStyles is a medically-supervised exercise and membership program.
Presentation
Dr. Tim Stover, president of outpatient services at Akron General Medical Center, presented on behalf of the AGMC health care systems a $25,000 check for the Green Veterans Memorial Park Fund.
“This is the largest single donation received to date,” said Green Mayor Dick Norton.
According to Valerie Wolford, the communications coordinator for the city of Green, the fund has raised more than $152,000 of the $200,000 needed. In addition to AGMC, other major contributors include DRB Systems, Park Auto Group, Toth Buick, Lockheed Martin and Splash N Dash Car Wash.
The park will be built near the Torok Community Center with expected completion by Veterans Day, Nov. 11.
