“I don’t know of any time in recent memory, where it has been more important for us, as a nation, to get on our knees before God and call upon Him for wisdom. Wisdom to make the right decisions. Wisdom to make the right choice,” National Day of Prayer’s Honorary Chairman Ravi Zacharaias stated.

The Book of Nehemiah, in the Bible, shows Jerusalem in shambles, both physically and spiritually. Nehemiah wept for many days. Throughout this short book, it is mentioned 11 times that he prayed.

He prayed for the nation. He prayed before the Father of Jerusalem and asked for help and guidance.

The starting point for any answer is on our knees. We have one of the biggest elections in our nation’s history coming to fruition this year. Our military, our government, our church, our family, our business, our educational system, all could bring us to our knees, according to prayer day organizers.

On May 1, join the church leaders of New Franklin. They will have two services. They will have one at noon at the Tudor House. They will also conduct a service at 7 p.m. in the Manchester Middle School Gymnasium. Several churches, musicians, Fellowship of Christian Students, city government, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts will be involved in this observance.

“It has proven to be a great time of worship and prayer. It allows people who live near one another, work near one another, see each other at school, and other community related events to come together to pray,” director of the local observance, Jeff Lewis, stated.

President George W. Bush said to our nation during the National Day of Prayer, “Prayer has the power to change lives and to change the course of history.”

In 1952, the United States Congress created the National Day of Prayer and it was signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.

Organizers urge citizens to get on our knees as a community, the way our founding Fathers did, on May 1.
