The township trustees met with Summit County Engineer Alan Brubaker their June 11 meeting. Brubaker requested the township pledge $50,000 on a OPWC Grant Application for a new S. Main St. Road Project. The township declined citing participation in other road projects such as the feeder channel bridge on South Main Street.
Fiscal Officer Joni Murgatroyd noted that the board has been advised by the Summit County Engineer's Office that the LTIP (Local Transportation Improvement Program) grant for the Portage Lakes Feeder Channel project to improve the S. Main Street bridge was approved early this year after being denied last fall. The township has committed $25,400 to the project paid from the “road and bridge fund.”
The board is preparing information for the Fire Department's $4.65 Mill levy that is expiring this year. This is the primary levy for the department. The tax year end in 2009 with the last collection year 2010. Two resolutions will be required by the board in order to meet filing deadlines for the November general election.
The board also approved a four year contract with Avaya Maintenance for the township telephone system at $698.90 per quarter and declared a Chevy Kodiak dump truck, an American Road roll gate spreader, and a Gravely walk behind mower all obsolete and authorized for auction at Edinberg Auction Sales, Inc. for a 15 percent commission.
The next meeting of the Coventry Township Board of Trustees will be July 9, 7:30 p.m. at the township hall, 68 Portage Lakes Dr.
Special Meeting
At a June 25 special meeting, the Coventry Township Board of Trustees approved a contract with the Summit County Sheriff's Department for $573,354 through 2011. The number of deputies will be reduced from six to five to pay for the added cost of dispatch.
There will be one deputy patrolling 24-7 and coverage for three additional shifts. The township has also presented a memoranda of understanding which requires a sheriff representative attend the regular board meetings and department head meetings, training and education and requests that the state highway patrol be invited to handle the interstate patrol in Coventry.
Also, the board will rebid the fire department restroom modification as the former bids came in too high.
