Construction of a brand new street in Green named Franks Parkway is well underway. Cost of the project is approximately $1 million, financed by the developer and to be repaid by the city through tax increment finance revenue generated by the property improvements that will be made on the site such as the proposed Acme store and other retail buildings.
Currently, earthwork, along with utilities, is underway along with the construction of two bridges over a stream that runs near the road.
“The road had to be shifted south as you cross Massillon from Boettler Road to avoid the stream,” said Green Engineer Paul Pickett.
The sanitary sewer pump station, two traffic signal poles and several utility poles at the Massillon and Boettler Road intersection will have to be relocated. Massillon Road will also have the pavement cut open to extend a gas line under the road to the new site.
“Eventually, Boettler Road will be widened and shifted to the south when lanes are added to accommodate traffic growth as development along the Massillon Road continues, but this work will not occur for several years,” Pickett said.
The first phase of the project will extend 1,600 feet and will include sidewalks on each side of the road. This newly constructed road will be used to access the new Summa Emergency Center along with additional businesses in the coming years.
Coventry roadside mowing
Coventry Township recently completed its first round of roadside mowing throughout the township according to Coventry road superintendent Lael Stouffer.
“On average we will mow along the roadside at least twice maybe three times depending on the weather,” Stouffer said.
Those driving in Coventry are urged to contact the service department if they are experiencing any site distance problems caused by vegetation. These complaints are made a high priority and can be reported by calling 330-644-0785.
