Green Board of Education President Bob Campbell acknowledged the recent academic and athletic achievements by the districts’ students.

Campbell and the board thanked the community for their support in the recent renewal levy.

Superintendent Mike Nutter and Dr. Victor Pinheiro were absent due to illness.

Students of the month were introducted. These were Lucien Kallai, Jonathan Herbaugh, Rachael Bindreiter and Jeffery Cramer, Anthony Ornouski and Molly Thomas and John Andrews.

Several students were honored for their outstanding written compositions in the Laws of Life Contest, sponsored by the Better Business Bureau. Kailey Diver and Tim Stephens were winners of the Best Female and Best Male Essays in the High School Division. Tyler Cindea took second place in the Middle School Division.

Liz Perch, David Longstaff, Alexa Benear, Mark Dahlman and Jessica Dixon received State level Certificates of Merit.

Both Green Middle and the Intermediate schools were awarded SOAR Award for progress by Batelle for Kids. This the second consecutive year the schools have won this award. They placed in the top 1.5 percent of the 783 participating SOAR schools.

The board recognized the achievements of the girls and boys cross country teams and the boys soccer team. Coaches from each sport talked about their teams. The entire soccer team was introduced while Marissa Papp, Krista Roehlig and Dylan Papp and Kyle Wheeler were introduced from the cross country teams.

There was a short discussion of the various Veterans Day events put on by each school. Each school did something to honor veterans for their service.

School treasurer Eddie Snowberger gave a presentation on the five-year financial forecast.
Despite the passage of the recent renewal levy, the long term projection is not encouraging, she said.

Due to rising costs, inflation and lack of revenue growth, by fiscal year 2014 Green will be in the red by almost $25 million.

Snowberger said the last year Green brought in more than it spent was 2007.

Currently, various methods to increase revenues and decrease spending are being reviewed.
Options include department cuts, hiring and wage freezes, health care insurance savings and a new tax levy.

In the coming months more information will be coming out on these issues.

The board accepted donations a golf cart from the Band Boosters for the high school band, $500 from the Green primary PTA to the Early Learning Center and $500 from the Green Primary PTA to the Green primary School Pupil Support Fund.

The board approved a new deposit agreement with Charter One Bank, allowing funds to be more easily accessed.

A measure allowing the board easier access to tax money paid early to the country treasurer in accordance with Ohio law was approved.

Closing comments included comments by each board member thanking the community for their support of the recent levy.

Outgoing board members Jim Hill and Jay Dettorre pledged their continued support to newly elected board members, Linda Wiggins and Steve Foster.

President Bob Campbell took a moment to thank veterans for their service to the country. Campbell, a graduate of the Air Force Academy with more than 14 years of active military service, gave a special thanks to those veterans who served during Vietnam for their service during a time when the military was viewed by many with great disdain.

Campbell encouraged the community to attend the upcoming high school performance of “Thoroughly Modern Millie.”

The next board meeting is Dec. 10 at the new Central Administration Building at 6:30 p.m.
