Expansion for any business is a good thing, especially in a difficult economic
climate.

Kovatch Castings, located at 3743 Tabs Drive, held a ceremony to announce the 16,000 sq. ft. addition. The expansion should be completed by the end of the year. The building project was spurred by a $1 million grant the company was given through the government. It was one of the highest grants awarded for any one project.

“Today is a landmark day in the history of Kovatch Castings,” President Doug Kovatch said. “We have 34 years of history to look back on and many memories for very good and very bad times. Throughout our history we have remained consistent that has allowed us to achieve the success we are now enjoying.”

The expansion will give the company more room to work and save on energy. The project will result in cost efficiency. Departments will see additions which will also mean the hiring of more workers. With the growth of 150 employees to a current 185 employees, KCI has already experienced job growth.

Kovatch thanked the hard working people of the company, who have delivered quality and consistent work over the years. The employees celebrated the ground breaking ceremony.

“You guys are the life blood of the company,” he said.

He also thanked the customers, who have produced record breaking numbers over the last four months.

In 2009, the company had $15 million in sales. This year, they are projected to reach $16 million. With the expansion, KCI may exceed the $20 million mark.

Kovatch also realizes there is no time to be complacent. Even as they expand they need to remain true to their ethical and spiritual beliefs. Kovatch said the company is fortunate to be in this situation.

Green Mayor Dick Norton celebrated the successful local business. He commended the company and employees.

“I’m inspired with how much he appreciated you,” Norton said to the Kovatch staff. “You can’t make a great company without great workers.”

Seeing the expansion at this time in the economy was another thing that impressed Norton.
“It takes guts to expand during these economic times,” he said.

Kovatch emphasized the importance of local industry.

“It is vital to economic recovery that manufacturing be supported and valued by those who govern us on both state and federal levels because we create jobs that many people need,” he said.
