Looking for something to do? Community members have been working in many ways to raise money for the recently injured police officer Mark Dodez and his family and there are many events coming up.
Dodez was struck by a hit and run drunk driver and his prognosis is that he will not walk again. Sergeant, Denise Moore stated that Dodez has a very positive outlook and is in rehab.
Doctors are hopeful that within another six weeks or so, he will be able to come home.
At Young Elementary students and staff members bought links for a chain that was displayed in the showcase with colorful wishes for officer Dodez. The chain will be taken to him. There was also a bake sale and teachers in all the schools paid to wear jeans to school.
Approximately $3,000 was placed in the First Merit Dodez Family Benevolent Fund.
Dylan Miller, Dustin Shumway, A.J. Thompson and Tyler Schnabel took one of the donated paint cans for collecting donations out and about and earned $40.
More than 600 plus t-shirts with a picture of Dodez’s badge, his name and number, have been sold by the police department at Giant Eagle and the high school.
