City of Green (Sheriff’s Patrol)
Deputies were called to a fight at a Massillon Road bar Sept. 13. Officers charged a Cottage Grove Road man, 25, with obstructing official business. He lied about the incident, deputies said, and wouldn’t disclose the identity of the other man involved, who happened to be sleeping in his car. The other man, a 24-year-old of Lockwood Road, was turned over to Barberton police after he was found with a warrant for resisting arrest.
On Sept. 11, a representative of an apartment complex on Delta 77 Drive reported suspects sprayed an orange fluorescent paint on the community washers and dryers, and also painted the word “Scumlord” on a brick wall.
On Sept. 9, a S. Arlington Road woman reported a DVR box was stolen from her front porch. She said she placed the box on the porch as instructed by her cable company for pickup. The property was valued at $1,500.
Someone attempted to break into a South Main Street drive-through by ramming a vehicle through the rear garage door Sept. 9. No entry was gained. An estimate of the damage was unknown.
A 62-year-old Canton woman was charged with theft Sept. 8. Deputies said she failed to pay her $26 cab fare after being dropped off at a location on Mayfair Road.
A quick-change artist scammed a counter clerk at a Massillon Road restaurant out of $100. The suspect pulled his trick while paying for a food order. The incident was captured on surveillance video.
Coventry Township (Sheriff’s Patrol)
A scooter left outside a Manchester Road business was reported stolen Sept. 14. Deputies said someone also damaged the door of the business in an attempt to break in. In addition, mail was removed from an outside mailbox and found shredded on the steps of the business.
On the same day, an Otter Drive woman called deputies after her husband came home intoxicated and started throwing things around and punching the walls. The woman said she was afraid for the safety of herself and her two children. Officers arrested the woman’s 29-year-old husband for domestic violence.
A Hartville woman reported her leather purse was stolen while she left unattended on a table at a Portage Lakes Road bar. The $600 purse contained a cell phone, a camera, several IDs and $860 in cash.
An Akron woman reported her boyfriend punched her in the face after their car broke down on Interstate 77. Deputies said the woman had a large red mark on her face. She refused to sign a domestic violence statement. Because of the obvious assault, an officer arrested the woman’s 29-year-old boyfriend for domestic violence and transported him to the Summit County Jail.
Deputies were investigating a burglary reported at an E. Warner Road home Sept. 9. Someone forced open a side door and stole two bracelets and a necklace, total value $600.
City of New Franklin
Police were investigating a burglary reported at a bar on W. Turkeyfoot Lake Road Sept. 6. Someone got inside by pushing an air conditioner through a second-story window. Three computers, a box of rolled change, an ATM key and money from a safe were reported stolen. One of the computers was found outside on the property.
A 51-year-old Canton man was arrested for making false statements to a police officer during a traffic stop on Dusty’s Road Sept. 4. The man was initially stopped for speeding on his motorcycle. Police said the man wasn’t carrying identification and gave the officer a name that could not be verified. Once the man’s true identify was established police discovered he had warrants in Stark County.
Springfield Township
A 29-year-old Green man was arrested Sept. 13 after police discovered he had an active warrant from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office. The man was a passenger in a car stopped for a traffic violation on Kubler Trail.
On Sept. 10, a Myersville Road man told police that someone broke into his home by prying open a back door. A box containing $500 in collectible bills and coins and a jar filled with change were stolen. On the same day, a Coach Lane man reported someone broke into his home and took a water jug containing $80 worth of change.
A 57-year-old Barberton woman was arrested for assaulting a man during a dispute at a school football practice on Pickle Road Sept. 9. According to the report, the woman was arguing with a Uniontown man and when he started to walk away, she kicked him from behind.
On Sept. 8, an 11-year-old girl told police she was walking in the 900 block of Delaware Avenue when a man in a tan minivan pulled up to her and said, “Don’t run or scream, just come over here.” The girl took off running. The suspect was described as a white male, between 30-39 years old, with black hair and blue eyes. The girl said the man was wearing a red shirt at the time and appeared to have a lazy right eye.
Three individuals were charged with theft after allegedly attempting to steal merchandise from a S. Arlington Road discount store Sept. 7-8. A Cleveland Avenue woman, 36, was accused of leaving with $43 in food and clothes without paying. She was placed into custody after police discovered she was wanted on a warrant in Mississippi. A 20-year-old Barberton man was detained after police said he shoplifted a $6.00 box of allergy medicine. A security officer reported a 51-year-old Akron woman placed two tubes of face cream in her purse and left without paying.
On Sept. 6, a Kubler Trail man reported being assaulted by a man in a pickup truck after yelling out to the man to slow down on his street. The suspect jumped out of his truck and during a heated exchange, began hitting the Kubler Trail man in the face and chest. He then got back into his truck. As he was leaving, the man’s wife grabbed on to the truck while it was moving and fell off. Police located the 30-year-old suspect a short time later and charged him with assault.
Lakemore Village
On Sept. 10, an Oxford Circle man reported someone entered his unlocked car and stole a gym bag containing two credit cards and a pair of tennis shoes. He later learned one of the credit cards was used for a $314 purchase at a store in a North Canton mall. The same card, he said, was also used at the food court to pay for a food order of $3.79.
On Sept. 9, an employee at a Canton Road department store reported a teenage girl came out of a fitting room with an overstuffed purse after she and two other girls went into a stall to try on lingerie. Officers said that when they confronted the girl about the matter, she went back into the fitting room and minutes later came out with a much flatter purse. When they tried to question the girl further, she started swearing at them and ended up throwing her purse on the hood of their cruiser. She was later charged with unruliness and released to her mother.
An Abington Road man, 42, was charged with theft on Sept. 5 after police allege he stole a $6.00 bottle of cough medicine from a Canton Road drug store.
An 18-year-old male student was charged with criminal damaging at the high school Sept. 4. Police said he tore the thermostat off the wall in the cafeteria and threw it at another student.
Uniontown Police
On Sept. 10, an Edison Street woman reported suspects threw eggs, hot dogs and pop cans at the front and back of her house.
A Legacy Street man called police on Sept. 9 to report his 16-year-old son took his car without permission. The boy returned minutes later and was found in possession of three plastic bottles used to smoke marijuana. He was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and drug and paraphernalia possession.
On Sept. 5, police were dispatched to Cleveland Avenue after several male juveniles were reportedly seen smoking marijuana behind a church. An officer located the juveniles in a nearby business parking lot. A 16-year-old North Canton boy was charged with two counts of possession after he was found with two marijuana cigarettes and a pack of rolling papers.
Hartville Village
Police were called to a W. Maple Street apartment Sept. 11 after a man and a woman were reported screaming at each other in the driveway. The parties admitted they had been arguing much of the day but said no assaults or threats had taken place. According to the incident report, police went to the couple’s home a week before for the same complaint. They were charged with disorderly conduct with persistence and released with a summons.
Police were investigating a break-in reported at a Mill Street business Sept. 9. Two windows on the main door were found shattered but nothing was reported missing.
An E. Maple Street man was booked into the Stark County Jail Sept. 8 after being charged for the second time this year with disorderly conduct. Police found the man intoxicated at his apartment, where he reportedly was yelling grossly abusive language and throwing things. According to the report, the man and his girlfriend were charged with disorderly conduct on July 26. Police said this was their seventh visit at the man’s home.
