In the news: American author Gore Vidal died Tuesday night at age 86, his family said. Vidal wrote 25 novels, several screenplays and scores of essays, and he was politically active, twice running (unsucccsessfully) for office.  He will be remembered for his political stances, for believing that we are living in America's last days because of the country's policies over the years, and for being a man of letters (see his bibliography here).

Happening today: Amid the Chick-fil-A controversy over its president’s comments against gay marriage, supporters are calling today Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day and are urging people to eat at the restaurant. On Friday, a protest is scheduled at Chick-fil-A restaurants: National Same-Sex Kiss Day.

Motivational quote: “The trials on the road to world harmony are no greater than the courage of those who accept the challenge.” – Carl Lewis

Watercooler talk: Woman misses giant screen proposal at Wrigley Field

A Montana man wanted to propose to his girlfriend at Chicago's Wrigley Field, but when the proposal popped up on the giant screen, she wasn't at her seat.
