Vidal wrote 25 novels, several screenplays and scores of essays, and he was politically active, twice running (unsucccsessfully) for office. He will be remembered for his political stances, for believing that we are living in America's last days because of the country's policies over the years, and for being a man of letters (see his bibliography here).
