In the news: Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy's statements about gay marriage have drawn the ire - and praise - of many people on social media, with the company trending this morning in Twitter, Facebook and search engines. Cathy told the Baptist Press, "We are very much supportive of the family - the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that."

Happening today: A controversial Arizona sheriff will go on trial today. Joe Arpaio, who has made the news for a variety of reasons, including wanting proof of President Barack Obama’s birth certificate, is facing charges of racial profiling, unlawful searches and more.

Opening bell: The Dow Jones opened at 12,908.70, up 103.16 points Wednesday.

Motivational quote: “The fact is, that to do anything in the world worth doing, we must not stand back shivering and thinking of the cold and danger, but jump in and scramble through as well as we can.” - Robert Cushing
