Feb. 14 Meeting
KEY ACTION Trustees announced plans for representatives from both American Electric Power and First Energy Solutions to attend the Feb. 28 meeting to explain the increase in electric rates. The meeting is scheduled to start at 5:15 p.m. at the Township Hall. The utility presentation will begin at 6 p.m.
“We have been receiving many calls about the rate increases so AEP and First Energy Solutions will be coming to the next meeting to answer questions and address the issues,” said Trustee President James N. Walters.
OTHER ACTION
- Approved making a request to ODOT for a traffic study for Wales Avenue and Traphagen Street. Trustee John Pizzino, said that a study was completed a few years ago but the traffic count has gone up and the area may now require a traffic light.
- Approved agreements with Clint Miller for stage, sound and lighting and Great 2 Inflate, LLC for inflatable rides for the Community Celebration.
- Approved negotiated agreements with Jackson Professional Firefighters Local 2280 for 68 firefighter/medics and with the Fraternal Order of Police for 29 patrol officers. According to the new agreements, employees will receive a two percent pay increase this year and will pay around nine percent more for their health care coverage. Walters said that both the police and fire worked together to come up with the agreements and due to the current budget situation, “significant concessions” were achieved on both sides.
- Approved a small building addition for the Jackson Township Recycling Station. Total construction costs will be paid for by the Recycling Station.
- Approved first quarter fund transfers from the general funds to the Park funds for $176,255 and to the Zoning funds for $12,397.
- Approved sending a letter in support of Ohio House Sub Bill 386 which Marilyn Lyons, Jackson Township Administrator, said would allow proceeds from casinos to be used in townships.
- The following meeting dates were announced:
- Jackson Township Tax Incentive Review Council, 5 p.m. Feb. 28.
- Board of Zoning Appeals, 5:30 p.m. March 8.
- Citizen's Advisory Committees – Community Celebration 5:30 p.m. March 14.
- Stark County Township Association hosted by Jackson Township 6:30 p.m March 15 at the Jackson Township Safety Center, 7383 Fulton Drive NW
- Annual Community Easter Egg Hunt 11 a.m. March 31, Jackson North Park
