   A Russett Lane man called police to report a neighbor man had committed suicide. Officers searched the neighbor’s home and found the man alive and well inside. He admitted that he told the other man to tell police and his family that he had killed himself. Both men were charged with inducing panic. Police additionally charged the caller with obstructing official business. Also, the neighbor was taken to an area hospital for an evaluation for making suicidal threats.

    A 32-year-old Akron man was booked at the Summit County Jail on charges of domestic violence and child endangering According to reports, a witness traveling behind the man on Carper Avenue called police after seeing him hit a woman in the passenger seat. Officers stopped the suspect a short time later. A 4-year-old child was in the back seat.

    The owner of a S. Arlington Road gas station accused a 27-year-old Akron woman of stealing 10 phone cards and activating them. When contacted by police, the woman admitted to the theft and stated she was willing to make restitution. Store managers and police agreed to give her a week to pay back the $250 owed or charges would be filed.

    A 52-year-old Akron woman was charged with robbery and theft. Police said she left a S. Arlington Road department store without paying for $80 worth of merchandise that she was seen stuffing in her purse. When a security officer attempted to stop her outside, she resisted and ran off. She was apprehended a short time later by the officer and a sheriff’s deputy.

    A Hillstock Avenue woman reported someone bent the fence post at her rental property, causing about $250 in damage.

    A 23-year-old Barberton man was charged with theft after police said he stole a $4.00 package of air refresheners from a S. Arlington Road department store. In a separate incident at the same location: a 20-year-old Barberton woman was arrested after she was observed putting socks and jewelry in her pants pocket and leaving without paying.

    Vandals broke 10 windows at a vacant business on Canton Road, reports said. An estimate of the total damage was unavailable.
