Brian “Gus” Dudek, the son of Patty and Joe Dudek of Green, signed a letter of intent to run track and cross country for the University of Akron.
“Gus is a great student-athlete,” said Green Athletic Director Mark Pfaff. “We wish him the best at Akron.”
“Gus is a leader by example,” said Coach Justin Thacker. “He holds himself up to a higher standard and his work ethic is unparallel.”
Thacker, a soccer coach, said Gus would play soccer for Green then run 3 miles. “The next day, he’d still have a high level of energy.”
“I think Akron will be a good fit for me,” said Gus. “I’m looking forward to competing at the next level. For the first time I will focus on running. I think that will be awesome to focus on my running. I can’t wait to see how much better I can get.”
“We’re an Akron U family,” said Patty Dudek. “Joe has five brothers and sisters and I have five siblings. All of them attended Akron. So, we’re excited about his choice. Plus, it’s close and we can watch some meets.”
Coach Paul Hane, a track coach, said Gus will help the Zips. At Green, Gus was a leader and “he instilled leadership into the guys that will follow.”
Gus said he has learned much from his Bulldog coaches. “I learned my work ethic from my coaches. I’ve learned so much from my teachers in Green.”
Gus is undecided on his major, but he will be in the honors program.
