Featured teacher Aaron Skeggs of Spring Hill is back to teaching at Springfield Local Schools after the district struggled financially and had to let him go more than five years ago.
Principal Michelle Warner said that, though Skeggs was “an outstanding teacher,” the district was overstaffed and cuts had to be made.
Due to a similar situation at another employer, Skeggs found himself looking for a job five years later in May 2012. He applied for an opening at Springfield.
“We were so pleased to have him apply for a job in this district,” Warner said.

Family Wife, Jennifer, and children Jeremy and Ava. Son Alyc is due this month.
School and subject Spring Hill Junior High in the Springfield Local School District. Skeggs teaches 7th grade math, 7th grade social studies and 8th grade science.
Credentials Bachelors in education from The University of Akron
Why do you teach? “I love being part of a profession that makes a difference in kids’ lives. I come to school every day knowing how important my job is, and I enjoy every minute of it.”
Teaching philosophy “I believe that every child has the ability to be successful in their own way. Teachers and schools provide them with the opportunity, resources and skills needed to accomplish their goals.”
School involvement Skeggs is part of the school-wide anti-bullying program and is a coach for the varsity football team.
Favorite teaching moment “When we work with a tough concept and I see in the kids’ reaction that they ‘got it.’ ”
Evidence of student achievement “Observing my students actively engaged with a concept and taking ownership of their learning.”
Role model: Skeggs said his role models are his parents, who both are retired teachers.
“They always have a positive outlook on life no matter what happens. The support they have given me growing up, and (to) my family now is irreplaceable.”
Best advice ever given “ ‘The more education you have equals the more opportunities available to you.’ A teacher I once worked with told her own children that. I think it applies to everyone.”

Ambitions: “Continue to evolve as a positive influence on my students, colleagues and family.”
An “a-ha” moment that changed his life: “My mom telling me to get my butt in gear and finish college.”
Interests and hobbies: Helping friends and family with anything they need and being involved in school and his own children’s activities.
