Police Blotter: Green man arrested in paintball shootings

City of Green
(Sheriff’s Patrol)

• Kenneth Simmons, 18, of Green, was charged April 10 with improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, criminal damaging, criminal trespass and two counts of criminal mischief. Summit County Sheriff’s investigators said the charges stem from incidents in February in which Green High School, Park Honda and several other businesses were shot with paintballs and one vehicle was shot by a .22 caliber rifle. Simmons was booked into the Summit County Jail.  Officers recovered a paintball gun and rifle from Simmons’ car at his home.
• Someone broke into a car at a South Arlington Road dealership April 9 and stole stereo equipment valued at more than $3,000.
• Deputies responded to two other thefts on April 9. A 15-horsepower boat motor valued at $1,000 was taken from a yard in the 4600 block of Winning Way. On Mayfair Road, a woman reported her daughter’s $90 bicycle stolen.
• A Long Road woman said someone used her credit card number to make purchases at two home improvement stores, one in Coventry Township and the other in Cuyahoga Falls. The unauthorized charges totaled $2,439.02.
• On April 7, an employee at a Massillon Road bar said he went to break up a fight between the manager and a customer when someone punched him in the left eye. He sustained a cut on the side of his head. No witnesses came forward to confirm the employee’s story, deputies said.
• A Thursby Road woman told deputies on April 6 that an unknown man called her several times saying he wanted to chloroform her. She was unable to identify the caller because of a blocked telephone number.
• Also on April 6, a South Arlington Road man said he had an ongoing problem of someone coming into his yard and either destroying or stealing his property. On the reported date, he said someone sank his 7-ft boat, tore down a wooden structure in his yard, and removed a 10-ft. steel scaffolding.
• Suspects broke into a home under construction in the 3400 block of Myersville Road April 5. A shower-tub unit, a gas fireplace insert, two fiberglass ladders, and a 150-amp panel box were reported taken. Damage was also found in the fresh concrete in the garage.

Coventry Township (Sheriff’s Patrol) 

• On April 11, a clerk at a S. Main Street grocery store said a woman drove into the drive-thru and asked for eight packs of cigarettes and a bottle of pop. After she got her items, the woman handed the clerk a debit gift card and then drove off. The clerk scanned the card and found it had no funds on it.
• A Glenmount Drive man, 25, was charged April 10 with domestic violence after he allegedly grabbed his girlfriend by the arms and threw her to the ground at their home. He was booked into the Summit County Jail.
• A Nancy Avenue woman told deputies on April 9 that someone came into her home through an unlocked door and took a television and video game system.
• On April 7, a Warner Road man said someone came into his yard and stole six tree stumps. He later found the stumps smoldering in a fire outside a home on Orton Avenue. The matter was being investigated.
• An Orlando, Fla. woman, 36, was arrested April 6 on charges of theft and passing bad checks. Deputies said she wrote two checks for a total of $120,064.70 to purchase a car at a S. Main Street classic car business. The checks later bounced. The woman was arrested when she arrived to pick up the car.
• A Chenoweth Drive woman, 20, was charged with domestic violence April 5. She is accused of pushing her mother into the kitchen counter at their home.

City of New Franklin

• A 49-year-old Coventry Township man was arrested for drunken driving April 11 after he was stopped for a lane-crossing violation in the 4600 block of Manchester Road.
• On April 10, someone entered two vehicles outside a home in the 7500 block of Middle Street and stole property valued at $1,875. Among the items taken were 60 compact discs, a digital camera and two pairs of sunglasses.
• An 18-year-old Green man was charged April 10 with criminal damaging after he was accused of shooting paintballs at three homes on West Nimisila Road. The same man was charged with similar offenses in Green.
• A Clinton woman reported a medicine bottle containing 20 Percocet pills was taken from her purse while she was at work on West Nimisila Road April 6.
• A 51-year-old Akron woman was charged April 6 with falsification, obstructing official business and possession of drugs. Police said she gave an officer a fake name and Social Security number during a traffic stop on Manchester Road. A baggie of suspected marijuana was found in her car’s glove box.

Springfield Township

• A Broadview Road man, 60, was arrested and booked into the Summit County Jail April 11 on a charge of disseminating matter harmful to a juvenile. He is accused of watching pornography on his computer in the presence of a child under the age of 13. The arrest comes after a two-month investigation, police said. Additional charges related to several other children were pending at the time of the report. The man is a registered sex offender in Summit Co.
• A Lessig Avenue woman told police that someone used her lost debit card to make several unauthorized purchases. She has since cancelled the card.
• A Milo White Drive girl, 16, was charged with unruly juvenile offenses after her mother said she left home April 9 without permission and did not return. When she returned the next day, she told her mother she had gone to Youngstown with friends and just “hung out” and smoked marijuana.
• A GPS unit valued at $300 was taken April 10 from a car in the 3300 block of Samuel Road.
• A 43-year-old Akron man was charged with obstructing official business April 10 following a traffic stop on South Arlington Road. Police said he gave his brother’s name when he was asked for identification. He admitted he lied because he didn’t want to get a ticket.
•  Someone broke into a car parked at a South Arlington Road restaurant April 10 and stole a purse containing credit cards, a checkbook, $15 and the owner’s IDs.
•  Also on April 10, a Krumroy Road woman, 53, was cited for an animal control violation. According to reports, the woman’s dog tried to attack a neighbor’s dog and was found in another neighbor’s yard when an officer arrived. The woman had been warned several times in the past about keeping her dog under control.
•  A diamond tennis bracelet valued at $3,499 was reported missing April 9 from a home in the 2200 block of Delaware Avenue.
•  A Ewart Road woman, 42, was charged April 9 with theft and criminal trespass. She is accused of shoplifting $90 worth of food from an East Waterloo Road store. She had been banned from the store because of a prior incident.
•  Also on April 9, a Shanafelt Avenue woman told police that while she was serving time in jail, three people she regards as acquaintances went to her home and stole a leaf blower and lawn mower from her garage and other items from inside the house. Police were investigating.
•  A Pepper Hill Drive man, 45, was charged April 8 with domestic violence and resisting arrest. Police were called to the man’s home after the mother of his child said he threatened and pushed her. When confronted by officers, the man fled into a room and attempted to block the door. As officers forced their way in, the man reached for something behind the door, at which point he was shot with a Taser. The man has a prior domestic violence conviction.
•  A 22-year-old Akron man was charged with theft April 5 after he was accused of taking $550 from a cash drawer while employed at a South Arlington Road department store. He told police “things were tough at home.”

Lakemore Village

•  Police were investigating a report of a Mohican Boulevard man accused by the village of stealing utility services. According to reports, the man’s water was shut off because he hadn’t paid his bill since last October. However, a village worker noticed the man’s water was back on in early March. The worker also noticed that the man had replaced the village issued water meter with another meter.
•  Police were called to a Canton Road drugstore after a man was observed opening packages. The 45-year-old suspect was found with an active felony warrant in Summit Country. He was turned over to Sheriff’s deputies.
• Uniontown Police
•  A Mt. Pleasant Road man, 45, was charged April 17 with one count of receiving stolen property. Police said he had a vehicle registration sticker on his car that belonged to a woman living in his apartment complex.
•  A Duquette Avenue boy, 15, was charged April 10 with making false alarms to a law enforcement agency. Police said he filed a report saying that he was struck by a car while walking on Edison Street, which they later determined was untrue.
•  Three rings and a bracelet, total value of $6,400, were reported missing April 9 from the bathroom of a State Street home.

Hartville Village

•  On April 16, a local woman reported someone smashed out the driver’s side window on her car while she was parked at a West Maple Street restaurant.
•  A Springfield Township woman, 55, was charged April 10 with physical control of a motor vehicle while intoxicated and an open container violation. Police said she was found heavily intoxicated in her car with the keys in the ignition in a parking lot on West Maple Street.
•  A video game system, an iPhone and a diamond ring, total value $1,100, were reported stolen April 9 from a home in the 1000 block of South Prospect Avenue.
• A High Street man, 26, was arrested April 9 on charges of speeding and failure to comply with a police order. According to reports, he refused to stop for an officer on West Maple Street and continued speeding until he lost control of his car and struck a tree on William Penn Avenue.
