Police Blotter: May 13, 2012

City of Green

• Someone entered an unlocked shed on Dewalt Drive May 2 and stole a riding mower, two chainsaws, two car fenders and a gas tank, total value $1,385.
• A 50-year-old Springfield Township man was arrested for public intoxication May 2 after a deputy spotted him stumbling on East Caston Road. He was given a warning earlier in the day for the same offense.
• Deputies are investigating a report by a Tallmadge woman who said she was attacked by an unknown man in a backyard on Park Ridge Drive. The suspect reportedly used what appeared to be a knife to cut the woman on her arms and neck.
• A Melanie Drive man, 20, was charged with assault April 30. He is accused of pushing and punching a woman at her home during an argument over money. Deputies located the man walking down the street from the woman’s home. He was booked into the Summit County Jail.
• A 54-year-old Akron woman was charged April 29 with criminal damaging and criminal trespass. Deputies said the woman drove to her estranged husband’s home on East Caston Road, backed up her SUV to the kitchen window, and then cut the window screen to get inside the home.
• On April 28, an Oxford Lane woman told deputies that someone broke her bedroom window while she was asleep. When she looked out her front window, she saw a silver or gray vehicle leaving at a high rate of speed.
• On April 27, deputies and fire department personnel responded to an open fire on Steese Road. An 18-year-old man admitted to starting the blaze. While deputies were in the process of citing the man for an open burning violation, the man’s mother arrived on the scene and started swearing at the deputies and making obscene gestures. She refused to calm down and eventually fled inside her home. Deputies later charged the 47-year-old woman with misconduct during an emergency.
•  Also April 27, deputies were called to a South Main Street store after a clerk said she saw a man pick up an energy drink and leave without paying for it. The drink cost $2.37.

Coventry Township

• A security officer at a Manchester Road supermarket told deputies May 2 that two women in their mid-30s left without paying for $100 worth of groceries. They were seen leaving the parking lot in a black Jeep.
• On the same day, an Isleview Drive resident reported seeing a man inside his SUV. When he approached the vehicle, the man got out and ran off. It was unknown at the time if anything was taken.
• A Portage Lakes Drive man said someone got a hold of his debit card number and used it to make an unauthorized charge out of state for $445.29.
• A Parnell Drive man, 46, was charged with disorderly conduct by intoxication April 29 after he was found passed out in the street on Canova Drive. He was treated by paramedics at the scene and released to his father.
• A Barberton woman said someone busted out the rear window on her car while she was parked at a Manchester Road bar April 29. Damage was estimated at $200.
• Two residents on Ingleside Drive reported thefts from their vehicles April 28. A GPS device, five compact discs, a radio/cassette player and some loose change were taken. A third resident on the street said someone rifled through two vehicles in his garage but didn’t take anything. On the same evening, a Redcrest Lane man reported a wallet stolen from his SUV.
• A Nancy Drive man, 37, was arrested April 28 on a domestic violence charge. His wife told deputies he yelled obscenities at her while he was drunk and then kicked in the door of a bedroom where she and her three children were. He then pushed her before leaving the house with a friend.
• Also on April 28, a funeral home director on Manchester Road called deputies after a North Carolina woman accused a township woman of stealing an urn containing her husband’s ashes during a funeral service. When confronted, the township woman said it was all a misunderstanding and agreed to return the urn to the North Carolina woman.
• A 60-year-old woman was charged April 27 with disorderly conduct and misuse of 911. Deputies accused the woman of dialing 911 several times for non-emergency calls while she was intoxicated at a Manchester Road motel. She was also accused of swearing at the staff and annoying other guests.  

City of New Franklin

• On May 3, a patrol officer stopped two men in a car on Point Comfort Drive. A computer check revealed the 26-year-old driver had two outstanding warrants, one in Alliance for domestic violence and the other in Tallmadge for stalking. His 27-year-old companion had a warrant in Barberton for petty theft.
• A business owner on W. Turkeyfoot Lake Road reported 80 brass shut-valves stolen sometime between May 2 and 3. He later learned the valves were sold for scrap at a recycling business in Barberton.
• A West Comet Road man, 63, was booked April 29 at the Summit County Jail on a domestic violence charge. His wife told police the man sucker punched her during an argument and then punched her again on the side of the head. A witness confirmed the woman’s account.

Springfield Township

• A Lancaster man reported someone broke into his car while he was staying at a South Arlington Road hotel May 2. Three shoe sample bags, a briefcase and some checks were taken. Total loss, including damage to the car’s window, was set at $850.
• On May 1, police were called to a South Arlington Road department store about an unwanted person. A woman was reportedly asked to leave after getting into an argument with an employee. Officers located the woman at a nearby gas station and discovered she had a warrant in Fairlawn. The woman was arrested and turned over to Fairlawn police.
• A pickup truck with a motorcycle in the back was reported stolen May 1 from outside a home in the 700 block of Fettro Road. The combined value of the 2006 Ford pickup and the Harley-Davidson motorcycle was around $50,000. The vehicles’ owner also reported a GPS device taken from another truck. He said that theft occurred while he was at work.
• On the same day, a Pressler Road man said his wife grabbed him by the arm and refused to let him go, and then punched him in the eye. He went to the hospital before reporting the incident to police. He also said his wife and her current boyfriend threatened to cut his throat while he was sleeping.
• Also on May 1, a contractor from Marysville told police a former employee went to a South Arlington Road home improvement store and purchased more than $4,000 in merchandise on his account. He said the suspect forged his name on the receipt. Police were investigating.
• A Meadow Spring Circle boy, 16, was charged April 30 with domestic violence. Police said he threatened to kill his mother and stepbrother with a knife during an argument at their home. He was booked into the juvenile detention center.
• A Uniontown woman reported someone keyed her car while she was at a Canton Road bar April 30. Damage to the paint was estimated at $4,000.
• Police are investigating an April 30 complaint of sexual abuse by a 44-year-old man accused of molesting a 3-year-old relative. A child abuse report was taken at the suspect’s home and forwarded to Children’s Services.
• A Ewart Road woman, 51, was charged with domestic violence April 28. She is accused of throwing a set of keys and a cup of soda at her husband during an argument.
• A warrant was issued April 27 for a 41-year-old Parma man on charges of theft and criminal trespass. Reports said he picked up a cordless drill off a shelf at a South Arlington Road department store and tried to return it at the customer service desk. When he was denied a refund, he walked out with the drill. Police said the man has been arrested four times in the past for shoplifting at the store.
• A 36-year-old New Philadelphia man was arrested by township police April 26 on charges of breaking and entering. He is accused of breaking into two doctors’ offices on South Arlington Road on April 17. He reportedly admitted to a number of other break-ins in Summit County and Lake Township. He was later taken into custody on a warrant by Sheriff’s deputies and booked into the Summit County Jail.

Lakemore Village

• On April 30, an electronic game system worth $300 was reported taken from a teacher’s office at Springfield High School. Three students were questioned about the incident.
• Someone entered an Adams Street home April 28 through an unlocked side door and stole archery and bow hunting equipment valued $1,915. Among the items reported missing were a compound bow, 12 arrows, and a bow case and accessories.
• Uniontown Police
• A Chowning Circle man reported May 6 that someone broke into his shed and stole a weed eater worth $300.
• Police responded to two incidents of vandalism May 6. At a miniature golf course on Edison Street, suspects broke light bulbs, pulled benches out of the ground and tore a canopy off a well. A garden hose was also reported stolen. At a State Street elementary school, someone spray-painted images on the back wall of the building.
• A Timberview Street man, 21, was arrested May 5 on charges of failure to comply with a police order, speeding and driving under suspension. Reports said an officer attempted to stop the man on Mt. Pleasant Road after clocking him traveling 75 mph in a 45 mph zone. The man led the officer on a chase until he reached his apartment, where he went inside and tried to keep the officer from entering.
• A North Canton man, 22, and a Canton man, 20, were arrested May 3 for receiving stolen property. Police said they found various stolen items in the bed of their truck during a traffic stop on Cleveland Avenue. They were initially pulled over for a loud exhaust and no license plate light.

Hartville Village

• A Lincoln Street man, 28, was charged with domestic violence May 8 after he was accused of assaulting his wife at their home. He was booked into the Stark County Jail.
