Summa Barberton Hospital has applications for nursing scholarships through the Tuscora Park Health and Wellness Foundation and the Bernadine H. Kovalchin, RN, Memorial Scholarship Fund. Scholarships for the 2009-2010 school year will range from $1,000 - $3,500. Deadline for all applications is Feb. 28.
To be eligible to apply for the Tuscora Park Health and Wellness Foundation scholarships one must:
- Be a resident of Barberton, Kenmore, Manchester, Coventry, Norton, Doylestown, Rittman, Canal Fulton, Green, Clinton or Wadsworth area. Summa Barberton Hospital employees are eligible regardless of residency;
- Be currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an acredited school of higher education, leading to a diploma or degree in professional nursing.
To be eligible to apply for the Bernadine H. Kovalchin, RN Memorial Scholarships, one must:
- Have attended Barberton, Copley, Norton or Wadsworth high schools and have completed a full year of undergraduate study;
- Be accepted into a qualified school of nursing (registered nurse);
- Have a minimum (college based) GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale;
- And, attend college on a full-time basis.
Selection criteria for the Kovalchin Scholarship will include the applicant’s character leadership, extra-curricular activities and financial need. The scholarship money may be used only for the payment of tuition and on-campus-based room and board.
Completed applications for both scholarships will also require an official transcript and three references with name and complete address.
