Many remember the age of the mustache as a time in the late 70s when Tom Selleck, Burt Reynolds, Walter Cronkite and even the Oakland Athletics Major League Baseball team sported stylish mustaches.

As part of a larger charitable goal, Keathley Advertising of Akron, Ohio, is working to bring the mustache back into style. The award-winning advertising and public relations agency has started an Akron chapter of Mustaches for Kids to raise money for the Boys  Girls Clubs of the Western Reserve. The chapter Web site is www.m4kakron.org and is the first in Ohio.

"We've always donated to local charities. It's part of the culture and mission of our agency to work with organizations that reflect our passion for helping those less fortunate," said Tom Keathley, president and executive creative director of Keathley Advertising. "This isn't your average fundraiser. We wanted to make it creative, fun and turn some heads along the way. Mustaches for Kids is a perfect fit for our agency and it's a great opportunity to helps out area kids."

Participants involved in the fundraiser will go through a "Growing Season" that lasts four weeks. During that time, growers will recruit volunteers and seek donations from friends, family co-workers and others in the community.

"We've set an aggressive initial goal of $5,000-$10,000 for this fundraiser," Keathley continued. "It's our goal to get the Akron community involved as much as possible to make this unique fundraiser a success."

The launch event, which requires growers to be clean-shaven, will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Nov. 12, at the offices of Keathley Advertising, located at 57 East Market St. on the top floor.

Following the first meeting, Growers will meet weekly at the Barley House, located at 222 South Main St., to promote the event, enjoy refreshments, take weekly stache pictures and get updates on the status of the fundraiser.

Meetings will be held once a week as follows:
·5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. - Nov. 12, at Keathley Advertising
·5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. - Nov. 19, at the Barley House
·5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. - Nov. 24, at the Barley House

·5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. - Dec. 10, Stache Bash at the Barley House

The weekly meetings will culminate at a grand Stache Bash, where the Akron Mustaches for Kids team will present a check to the Boys  Girls Clubs of the Western Reserve, celebrate with the community and hold a Sweetest Stache Contest. The event will start at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 10, at the Barley House.

The event is free and open to the public. For the full fall schedule and to learn more about how you can get involved in this charitable campaign, visit www.m4kakron.org.
