Akron General is finalized details to present to the City of Green, proposed plans for a new Health & Wellness Center, located on the corner of State Route 241/Massillon Road and Town Park Boulevard in Green.
The 98,000-square-foot facility would be modeled after Akron General's nationally- acclaimed and widely popular Health & Wellness Centers in Bath and Stow with an additional 42,000-square-foot medical office building for tenants.
“Akron General was the first hospital to bring outpatient healthcare services to the Green community back in 1997, and we are delighted to now expand our Health & Wellness Center concept to the people of Green and surrounding communities,” said Tim Stover, MD, president of outpatient services at Akron General. “We have worked on plans for the past 24 months to ensure this new center would bring together a variety of important healthcare and wellness services including 24-hour emergency care to the people of southern Summit County.”
An important component to the proposed new Health & Wellness Center in Green is a 24-hour Emergency Department that would be staffed with emergency medicine physicians and could address any family medical emergency. The new state-of-the-art facility would offer expanded services that are currently provided at Akron General's Green Health Center located at 1587 Boettler Road. Upon completion of the new center, Radiology, Lab, Sports Medicine & Physical Therapy and Reflections Breast Health Center would be relocated.
The proposed new Health & Wellness Center in Green would also be home to the nationally recognized Akron General LifeStyles fitness center. LifeStyles is a medically-supervised exercise and membership program that has won many national awards for fitness center excellence, including recognition from Club Industry Magazine as the number-one hospital-owned center in the country. Staff would include degreed athletic trainers, personal trainers and exercise physiologists, nutritionists and wellness experts.
“This is great news for the City of Green. We are absolutely thrilled that Akron General is continuing its commitment to our city by proposing to expand its services by bringing its very successful Health & Wellness Center concept to our area,” said Green Mayor Richard Norton. “Having a 24-hour Emergency Department for our citizens and surrounding communities would give us all peace of mind that in an urgent situation, excellent care is close by.”
The southern part of Summit County has seen tremendous growth in recent years. It is expected that the new proposed Health & Wellness Center in Green would be the focus of great interest from residents of Green and surrounding communities, including Hartville, Jackson Township, Massillon and North Canton.
Pending the City of Green approval processes, construction is expected to begin this summer with the building being completed in 2011.
