Nov. 30

- An opening reception for "Reclaimed: Environmental Art Today" curated by Annette Yoho Feltes and Icelandic and Archipelagic Encounters featuring Geraldine Kiefer at the Meet the BOX Gallery will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. The exhibit will be on display today through Dec. 29. The BOX Gallery is free and open to the public during exhibitions on Fridays and Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m. Additionally, The BOX Gallery is open for Akron Artwalk from 5-9 p.m. Dec. 1 and from 4 to 7 p.m. and Dec. 20. The gallery is at 140 E. - From 6 to 7:30 p.m., join a naturalist along Cherry Lane Trail and Fernwood Loop to learn why wildlife's eyes appear to glow at night and to search for these bright lights in the wild. - One million lights will illuminate Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens, 714 N. Portage Path, during Deck the Hall, the estate's annual holiday event taking place from 5 to 8 p.m. Nov. 30-Dec. 2. The Manor House interiors will be decorated to reflect the theme of a Winter Wonderland and every evening includes a Christmas tree lighting in the courtyard at 5:30 p.m. with Santa. Dec. 1

The Akron Zoo is hosting Wild Lights from 5 to 9 p.m. Dec. 1 and 2. The zoo will be decorated with lights and lighted displays. Mrs. C’s Sweets will be open for s’mores and other holiday treats, and the zoo’s Komodo Café will offer a special menu. The Ice Beer Garden will also offer adult beverages. The zoo will have an ice rink Guests can skate for $5 a person including skate rental. Kids can also visit Santa. Families can enter the zoo at 4:15 p.m. and visit with Santa, snack on cookies and hot beverages and write a letter to Santa before the zoo opens at 5 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase at akronzoo.org or at the Akron Zoo’s box office. Dec. 2

- The annual New Franklin Community Christmas Open House and Tree Lighting will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. at Tudor House on the Portage Lakes, 665 Latham Lane, New Franklin. School and community choral groups will entertain, children's holiday activities will be provided, and Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there for visits and pictures. The event will conclude with the lighting of the New Franklin Christmas Tree and carols around the tree to welcome the Holiday Season. Dec. 4

- Tuesday Musical presents The Canadian Brass in a holiday concert at 7:30 p.m. at the Akron Civic Theatre, 182 S. Main St. The brass quintet is known worldwide for entertainment, spontaneity, virtuosity and fun — but never at the expense of the music. Seating is limited to the orchestra section in order to create a more intimate concert experience. - The Great Trail Council, Boy Scouts of America will be welcoming the 2018 International Peace Light of Bethlehem to the area on Dec. 5 at 4 p.m.at the Great Trail Council Scout Shop located at 1601 S. Main Street. The Welcoming Ceremony is open to the public. Individuals and organizations of all faiths and/or denominations are cordially invited to bring a wind proof container or lamp to receive this Message of Peace and to take the Nativity of Bethlehem flame back to their place of worship in order to provide this Peace Light to their own congregations to commemorate the Christmas season or take home for their own personal use for the holidays. - The Falls Cancer Club is hosting its annual Cookie Walk from 10 a.m. to noon at Redeemer Christian School gym, 2141 5th St., Cuyahoga Falls. - A concert befitting Cleveland Clinic Akron General’s Muffin’s for Mammograms will be held at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 11-12. The program features Ryan Humbert, Emily Bates and a 12-piece big band. The concert will be held at the Akron Civic Theatre, 182 S. Main St. The show is limited to 150 seats.
