Voting members of the Barnesville Area Community Foundation are encouraged to attend the group’s annual meeting and election of officers slated for 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15 at the Barnesville Youth Center.
Two trustees for terms expiring in 2020 will be elected as well as president, vice president, secretary and treasurer.
During the past fiscal year, combined assets for all affiliated organizations and the trustees’ general fund broke the half million-dollar mark at $510,479.14.
Of that total, however, The Goaliners, who are in the process of wrapping up a successful capital campaign for the new fieldhouse, account for 54% of total assets managed by the organization.
During the fiscal year, the community foundation received a mere $620.00 in contributions for the unrestricted and endowment funds. During the same time year, the organization spent over $11,172.00 on community grants and expenses for a variety of projects and activities including the downtown flower basket program, summer lunch program and 4th of July fireworks.
As a result, the balance for these general funds dropped over $10,000 ending the year to $143,166.14. The decrease in the balance over a two-year period is $15,000.
Donations are needed to bolster the Unrestricted Fund to permit the Foundation to continue supporting worthy causes and events.

Donors may also be interested in becoming voting members of the organization. The member list consists of individuals, couples, businesses and organizations. Voting members contribute $50 a year for 10 years. Once the $500 contribution level is reached, they become a "permanent voting member." There are currently 200 permanent members while another 23 permanent members are deceased.

The Barnesville Community Foundation was incorporated February 10, 1993. The purpose of "the Foundation is to solicit and receive contributions and to distribute these funds (or in the case of endowment contributions, the earnings therefrom) for the cultural and economic development of the Village of Barnesville."
Current officers are: Jill Stephen, president; Paula Grear, vice president; Brenda Brown, treasurer, and Kelli Wehr, secretary. And, trustees are Judy Johnson, Joel Bradio, Paula Grear, Sam Lucas, Pat Reischman and Richard Marmie.
