- From 9 to 11 a.m., try stand-up paddleboarding as a certified instructor and a naturalist will guide you. No experience needed. Minimum age is 13; ages 13 to 17 must be with an adult participant. Participants must wear closed-toe shoes and be able to swim. Bring water, sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses and wear clothes that can get wet. Fee includes loan of paddleboard, paddle, life jacket and instruction. Space is limited and cost is $15 per person. Registration is required at summitmetroparks.org. - The Akron Zoo will host its second annual Wild for Wine event from 6 to 9 p.m. Guests 21 and older will be able to sample wines from local wineries as they explore the zoo after hours and enjoy live animal art, music and special vendors. Tickets are $45 for Akron Zoo members and $50 for non-members. Designated driver tickets are also available. Reservations are required and space is limited for this event, so be sure to purchase your tickets in advance. All guests must be 21 and older, including designated drivers. To purchase tickets, visit akronzoo.org.

Aug. 26

- Nature Crafting for adults making a bushel basket will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Firestone Metro Park/Coventry Oaks Area, 40 Axline Ave. Participants will create a bushel-style basket. Skill level is intermediate. Please bring a flat-head screwdriver, needle-nose pliers, towel and two-gallon bucket. Cost is $35 per person. Registration is required at summitmetroparks.org. - Get a head start on the 55th annual Fall Hiking Spree and meet a naturalist and mascots at Firestone Metro Park from noon to 3 p.m. Hiking forms will be available, and Fall Hiking Spree T-shirts will be for sale. To receive your hiking shield, all other hikes must be completed Sept. 1 through Nov. 30. For information, call 330-865-8065. - Paddle in the "Heart of Akron" on Summit Lake from 10 a.m. to noon. Explore nature by water while discovering the marvelous history of the community, which surrounds the lake. Minimum age is 13; ages 13 to 17 must be with an adult participant. Participants must wear closed-toe shoes and be able to swim. Bring water, sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses and wear clothes that can get wet. Fee includes loan of kayak, paddle, life jacket and instruction. Space is limited and cost is $15 person. Aug. 31 

- Kids 15 and younger can learn the basics of fishing, then drop a line at Alder Pond in Goodyear Heights Metro Park/Pioneer Area, 550 Frazier Ave., from 5 to 7 p.m. A few rods and reels will be available for use. Bait is provided. Adults must supervise their children but are not permitted to fish. For information, call 330-865-8065.

Sept. 3
