- Cleveland Clinic Akron General Challenge Golf will host the Tom Gearhart Memorial Golf Outing with tee times at 8 a.m., 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Golfers may register as a twosome or as an individual. - PVC Stomp Rockets and Marshmallow launchers will be held at 11 a.m. at the Springfield Lakemore Branch Library in the Lakemore Plaza on Canton Road. Attendees will use PVC pipe to construct the rockets and launchers and then compete to see whose marshmallows and rockets travel the fastest and go the furthest. Prizes will be awarded. July 9

- Coventry AARP #3820 will meet at 1:15 p.m. at the Portage Lakes Kiwanis Club Civic Center, 725 Portage Lakes Drive. Guest speaker will be Fr. Michael B. Smith, pastor of Immaculate Conception Church in Kenmore.  He is a historical buff and will present the "Origin of the American Flag." The program and refreshments are free.

July 11

Summit County MetroParks is holding a camp, Crazy for Camouflage, for children ages 5 and 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 11 to 13 at Furnace Run Metro Park/Brushwood Area, 4955 Townsend Road, Richfield Naturalists will lead children on nature-themed adventures, and day-campers will explore a park with fun, hands-on activities. Campers will hike, discover what’s in streams, make a take-home craft and learn all about the creatures that live in the Metro Parks. Cost is $50 per child. July 12

- Green Local Schools, the Summit County Sheriff's Office and Green Branch Library are sponsoring Dangerous Apps at the library, 4046 Massillon Road, at 6:30 p.m. The informative session, hosted by Dep. Mike Beers, will focus on social media apps and trends that parents and grandparents should be aware of. The session is free and is for adults-only.

- Children 3 to 6 and their adult companions will unearth the world of ants from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Goodyear Heights Metro Park/Goodyear Lodge, 2077 Newton St. The program includes a hike and craft. - Kids 15 and younger can learn the basics of fishing, then drop a line at Little Turtle Pond in the Firestone Metro Park, 2400 Harrington Road. The program is from 10 a.m. to noon. - Wigs for Kids is hosting the 12th annual Wigs for Kids Day at the Zoo 5K Run and 1-Mile Fun Walk along with a nationwide cut-a-thon at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. conditions. Since 1981, thousands of children in the United States have been served by Wigs for Kids. - The Springfield High School Class of 1973 will celebrate its 45th reunion July 27-29. At 6 p.m. July 27, there will be an informal meet-and-greet at the Iron Grill at Gala Common, 2215 Waterloo Road. At 6 p.m. July 28, there will be a buffet dinner at Bricco Prime, 4315 Manchester Road. Cost is $40 per person. At noon, July 29, a covered dish cookout and picnic will be at Lakemore Waterworks Park, 2834 Sanitarium Road. Guests are encouraged to bring a covered dish.
