JACKSON TWP.  The Paul and Carol David YMCA in Jackson Township held the ninth annual Senior Health and Wellness Day on May 9. Local seniors enjoyed health screenings, learning about local health care organizations, live music and lots of food.

"Everyone is having a good time today, they are enjoying the harpist, the socialization and the food," YMCA Senior Programmer Sue McFarland said.

Steve Dallas was there to play the harp. It was the first time the event offered live music.

Many businesses and community organizations provided activities, exhibits, information, health assessments and education.

The Laurels of Canton and Massillon sponsored a photo booth which was new this year.

Mercy Medical Center was one of the main sponsors and they had five departments handing out information including the heart center, Hospice, physicians and Statcare, driver rehabilitation, Medicare consultants, and therapy services.

Sally Smith from Lawrence Township said she comes to the event every year.

"It’s a nice turnout today, the event is always a well-rounded event with food, fun and plenty of information," Smith said.
