Summit County deputies were chasing the man after a domestic dispute at a nearby motel.

GREEN  Interstate 77 was closed temporarily Thursday morning when a young man running from a domestic dispute at a local motel crashed his car and climbed atop an overpass.

Makavelli V. Woodall, 21, of Akron was arrested after Summit County Sheriff's deputies were able to talk him down from the overpass about 3:30 a.m., according to a news release from Inspector Bill Holland of the sheriff's office.

Deputies had been called at 1:30 a.m. to a Green motel, where Woodall and his 18-year-old girlfriend had been arguing. The woman with their 1-year-old son sought assistance at the front desk, where Woodall then assaulted her and the clerk, Holland said.

Woodall fled with the child, dropping the boy off at a relative's house while the assault victims were taken to an area hospital and deputies went to search for Woodall.

The deputies spotted Woodall a short time later near the Giant Eagle supermarket in Green.

Woodall attempted to flee, crashing into a ditch, Holland said.

The chase didn't stop there.

Holland said Woodall climbed from the wreckage and ran toward the interstate.

"He climbed the culvert and ran toward the bridge," Holland said. "He then climbed up a street sign bracket on the bridge over Massillon Road."

Both north and southbound lanes of I-77 were closed for about an hour and a half as officers tried to talk him down from the overpass.

He was later booked into the Summit County Jail on charges of felonious assault, child endangering and domestic violence.
