JACKSON TWP.  The Jackson Local Schools Board of Education (BOE) approved roof repairs on sections five and seven at the high school during its regular meeting on March 20. Assistant Superintendent Barry Mason said the repairs will cost $399,737 and the contractor and installer will be Tremco and Advanced Industrial Roofing.

"This is part of our five-year capital improvement plan and will be paid from the Permanent Improvement funds," said Superintendent Christopher DiLoreto.

OTHER ACTIONS:

- Authorized an easement for Massillon Cable TV on the grounds where the previous administrative officers were located on Fulton Drive, close to Arlington Road. One of two easements approved at the Feb. 27 meeting was at Jackson Memorial Middle School. There were some concerns that if located at that site it may have to be moved at some point. Instead of the easement at the middle school, Massillon Cable decided the area on Fulton Drive would work better so it will replace the proposed easement at the middle school.

- Authorized six overnight field trips at no cost to the board including three trips for the boy’s tennis team to go to New Albany, Cincinnati, and Lexington. Plus, 60 to 65 students from Jackson Academy for Global Studies (JAGS) will be traveling to Maryland; the cross-country team will be attending Camp Wakonda; and the World Language Department will be traveling to Madrid, Spain. All trips are at no cost to the board, some are paid for by booster clubs and others will be paid by the student or the parents.

- Passed a resolution to continue to embed financial literacy into the social studies classes.

- Held an executive session to discuss details relative to the security arrangements and emergency response protocols for the board of education and to consider the employment of a public employee with no action taken.

UP NEXT: The Board will meet next at 5 p.m., April 16 at Jackson High School. The April meeting will be on a Monday evening instead of the regular Tuesday evening.
