LAKE TWP.  During the regular meeting on Feb. 26, the Lake Township Trustees approved a retirement request from Sgt. David White of the Uniontown Police Department.

White was shot four times when responding to a domestic violence call last July. Trustees authorized the fiscal officer to purchase six years of Ohio Public Retirement System credit and four years of military service credit to enable White to retire.

White agrees to waive and forego any payment of accrued vacation, sick leave or time off compensation. Trustee Jeremy Yoder said the resolution states that based on White’s age, years of service and his current physical condition which is directly and proximately related to injuries sustained while in the service of the residents of Uniontown Police District, it is just and equitable to authorize the credit purchase to enable his retirement.

- Approved a request to rezone approximately 8 acres located on the west side of Cleveland Avenue and south of Edison Street (SR 619) from low density residential/general commercial to an expanded low density residential/general commercial with a modification. The property owner requested to expand the commercial section of the split zoned property from the standard 450 feet that most properties along Cleveland Avenue in that area are zoned to 810 feet. The trustees approved the request by modifying it to 540 feet from Cleveland Avenue.

- Authorized paying bills as of Feb. 26 in the amount of $29,718.

- Approved raising the General Piping/Ditching Guidelines and the Drain Pipe/Ditch Enclosure Application/Quote from $10 a foot to $17 a foot.

- Went into executive session to prepare for, conduct or review collective bargain matters with no action taken.
