Silver League Softball challenges the idea that an athlete can be "past their prime," and has begun registration for this upcoming spring season. Sometimes referred to as Summit Senior Softball, the slow-pitch league’s sign-up is open to athletes 43 years of age and older. Registration will continue until Feb. 21, with fees due by April 1.
This spring will mark the league’s 32nd year, and over those many seasons the league has steadily grown and gained much enthusiasm from its participants and fans. Last year, the league boasted over 350 players spread over five age groups — the same age groups the league aims to use this spring — to allow each athlete to compete with healthy competition. Each division is guaranteed at least 20 games.
Silver League Softball’s first pitch will be thrown on May 1 after division drafts held sometime in April. The games will be held every Monday and Wednesday at the Barberton Sports Complex off Wooster Road West in Barberton.
Registration isn’t just for those wishing to play ball either. Silver League Softball encourages anyone interested being an umpire, manager, or assistant to get in contact with the league.
