The driver of the stolen car was shoplifting in Alliance, police say.

ALLIANCE A Summit County man is accused of driving to a home improvement store in a stolen car and trying to get away with merchandise.

Joseph S. Reeves, 33, of 2376 Spade Rd. NW in Green, also had a hypodermic needle in the car when Alliance police arrested him about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 2500 block of West State Street, according to Stark County Jail records.

The records said he was arrested at the Lowe's store after trying to leave without paying for the $68 in store merchandise.

He was jailed on charges of receiving stolen property, theft and possession of drug abuse instruments.

Reeves is on parole, according to Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction records. He had been released from prison Dec. 14 after serving time for taking the identity of another, receiving stolen property and two counts each of theft and forgery.

He remained in the jail early Wednesday, held in lieu of $26,000 bond pending an Alliance Municipal Court hearing.
