LAKE TWP.  During the regular meeting on Jan. 22, the Lake Township Trustees approved putting a five-year, 1-mill renewal fire levy with an additional five-year, 0.5-mill fire levy on the May 8 ballot.

President John Arnold said while there is a new 0.5-mill levy being added to the renewal, it will appear on the May ballot as one request for a 1.50-mill levy.

"The levy will generate $949,215 annually, the additional half mill generates $316,405 of that total per year," Arnold said.

The levy will provide and maintain fire equipment and buildings and will provide payroll for firefighters, EMTs and administrative staff.

This is the first renewal levy the fire department has asked for in five-years. The levy will help support three fire stations in the township, Greentown, Hartville and Uniontown. It will begin in 2018 and be in effect through 2022.
