JACKSON TWP.  During the regular meeting on Jan. 9, the Jackson Local Schools Board of Education elected Kenneth Douglas as president and Thomas Winkhart as vice president, effective Jan. 9 through the end of the year.

The board also set the regular meeting dates for 5 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of every month except for March, November and December, which will be at 5 p.m. the third Tuesday of each of those months.

The board was also recognized by Superintendent Christopher DiLoreto for School Board Appreciation month which is held in January of every year. Students from Strausser Elementary made clay plates for each board member, the superintendent, assistant superintendent and the treasurer as appreciation gifts.

OTHER ACTIONS:

- Authorized two overnight field trips at no cost to the board; for the Jackson Culinary program to go to New York City and for the boy’s lacrosse team to go to Toledo.

- Accepted $32,473 in monetary donations for the quarter and a Microsoft Surface Pro computer and Asus desktop tower for the technology program.

- Held an executive session to discuss details relative to the security arrangements and emergency response protocols for the board of education and to consider the employment of a public employee.
