HARTVILLE  At its first meeting of 2018, village council approved a contract with the Stark County Sheriff’s Office to provide police dispatching service for the village through the end of 2018.

Mayor Cynthia Billings said the cost of the one-year contract represents a roughly 3 percent, or 34.92 per month, increase over the 2017 contract – from $1,746 monthly, to $1,781 per month.

In other business:

- Council selected Councilwoman Kelly Ries as council president pro-tem for 2018

- Billings reappointed Tom Erb building official/inspector and sewer inspector; Ray Bednarczyk, zoning administrator; Todd Allen electrical inspector; Don Walker, backup; and Matt Miller to the board of zoning appeals.

-  Engineer Jim Benekos announced 2018 plans for a $300,000 generator installed at the waste water treatment plant, four sanitary sewer projects, and application for an Ohio municipal road fund grant for repairs to Sunnyside Street in 2019.
