LAKEMORE  Students at Young Elementary School finished up the end of the year with some fun activities during Elfie Day, Ugly Sweater Day and Santa Hat Day, Dec. 18, 19 and 20.

On the first day of fun ...

n Monday was Elfie Day. The idea was to have the students and staff wear elf costumes to put a little fun in the end of the year as the students have worked so hard from the beginning of school in August. In a normal school day, there is not usually time to let down and have a little fun. The day saw staff members and students dressed as elves and fun activities were planned.

On the second day of fun ...

n Tuesday students and staff dressed in ugly, but cute - as Principal Jennifer Ganzer put it - holiday sweaters. She went from room to room to see all the sweaters, having the children stand up and model them. There were store bought sweaters that could be a little cute and a little ugly, Darth Vader Christmas sweaters and homemade sweaters which were the best with tinsel, sparkly garland and other decorations. One unique and fun sweater was that of first grade student Carter Hahn, which was a homemade decorated shirt that had items found at Christmas time such as a stocking, ribbon, ornaments, candy canes and a tag that read "To Mrs. Freeze from Carter’s Mom."

On the third day of fun ...

n Wednesday was Santa hat day. Students and staff wore hats just like Santa’s and had activities of singing Christmas songs like "Jingle Bells" and "Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer." In some grade levels, students rotated rooms to participate in different activities.

Some classes made graham cracker houses and were excited to explain what they had done and show their houses and what was special about each one. The students brought in graham crackers and fun candy and decorations to share with classmates.

Staff and students alike enjoyed the three days of fun to go along with their studies and will be back in early January to kick off the rest of the school year.
