Jackson Township trustees have been talking with ComDoc, based in Green, about the possibility of expanding and building a facility on property along Pittsburg Avenue NW.
JACKSON TWP. Tax incentives are being offered to a Green company in hopes it will build a facility on farmland along Pittsburg Avenue NW.
Tuesday evening, Jackson Township trustees approved sending a letter outlining tax incentives to ComDoc, which sells and maintains copiers, printers and other machinery.
ComDoc's corporate headquarters are at 3458 Massillon Road in Green. The company also has a branch office in Green and a distribution and a parts reclamation center in Cuyahoga Falls.
Township officials said the tax incentives would place the new ComDoc facility within the joint economic development district between Jackson and Canton. The JEDD allows the township and Canton to collect income taxes, which generally are have been split evenly between the municipalities.
Randy Gonzalez, the township's fiscal officer and newly designated economic development director, said ComDoc officials were seeking authorization of the tax incentives before finalizing the purchase of land for the new facility. Gonzalez said the incentives couldn't be discussed until the land purchase and other issues were completed.
Officials with the township and ComDoc have been discussing a possible deal for about nine months, Gonzalez said.
ComDoc has plans to purchase a section of the Rohrer Properties farm on the west side of Pittsburg Avenue NW, according to Jackson officials. The property covers about 28 acres, according to county records. Another 40 acres on the east side of Pittsburg Avenue NW recently was divided and auctioned.
ComDoc was founded in Akron in 1955 as an office equipment sales and service business. It expanded into western Pennsylvania and New York, as well as around Ohio. In February 2009 ComDoc merged with Global Imaging Systems, a Xerox company.
Jackson and Canton have worked together on several development deals in recent years, bringing companies into the township. During Tuesday's meeting trustees allocated $22,600 in taxes collected through a JEDD involving Stolle Machinery to accounts for the police and fire departments.
