LAKE TWP.  The Lake Local Schools Board of Education authorized the purchase of two 77-passenger 2019 International buses, in accordance with the Stark County Council of Government Cooperative, for $83,000 each during its regular meeting on Nov. 20.

Superintendent Kevin Tobin said the district saved $106,000 per bus by purchasing through the Co-op.

"We are happy to be buying the International product. We’ve been pleased with the other International buses we have," Tobin said.

"It’s important for the district to continue to update the bus fleet," Board President Derrick Bailey added.

OTHER ACTIONS: 

- Held the monthly Hartville Lions Club, Uniontown Lions Club and the Lake Board of Education recognition program. The following students and staff were recognized: Katie Freshley and Caiden Johnson, 3rd grade; Carissa Wolfe and Carter Simms, 5th grade; Grace Mazzocca and Jack Lammlein, 8th grade; Kaitlyn Wallace and Daniel Hershberger, 12th grade. Also, recognized Joan Kostiuk, teacher of the month; Joann Hughes, employee of the month; and Jessica Swartz, volunteer of the month.

- Accepted an anonymous donation of $7,100 for the purchase of drum line equipment for the band and a dedication bench from Lake High School class of 1967. The bench will be placed in the new 2-6 school building.

- Approved two field trips as follows: Freshman class trip to New York City for Feb. 22-24, 2018. The cost is $475 per students and will be paid by the students. Also, the high School Marching Band trip to Disney World Feb. 14-19, 2019. Cost not to exceed $850 per student which will be paid by each student.
