Free admission tot he zoo

The Akron Zoo offers discounted and free admission days in November for Veterans Day and Election Day. To honor their service, all veterans, past and present, will receive free admission into the zoo with valid military ID from Nov. 5-11. Immediate family members will receive 50 percent off admission. In addition to Veterans Week, the Akron Zoo will be offering free admission to all guests on Election Day. Guests are encouraged to vote and wear their sticker to the zoo and share a photo on social media using #akronzooelectionday. Parking is $3. Family campfire

The Summit County Metro Parks is inviting families to enjoy a campfire while learning about Native Americans through storytelling from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Nov. 8 at the F.A. Seiberling Nature Realm/Campfire Area, 1828 Smith Road. This is good for spree credit. For information, call 330-865-8065. 

Towpath Freedom 5K

The Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition presents the 6th Annual Towpath Freedom 5k at 9 a.m. Nov. 11 at Lock 3 Park, 200 South Main St.. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. This race commemorates the completion of the Towpath Trail from border-to-border in Summit County as well as honors our U.S. veterans for their service. The pre-registration cost is $30 and closes Nov.  9 at 11:59 p.m., and race day registration will be $35. All pre-registered runners will receive a Tech T-shirt, with a limited amount available for race-day registrants. In honor of Veterans Day, the first 50 Veterans to register will also receive complimentary registration. To register online, visit www.ohioeriecanal.org/freedom5k .
