Visit the Metro Parks

Join a naturalist and hike Willow Trail from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday to learn how the land within Firestone Metro Park, 2620 Harrington Road, and surrounding areas was formed from 10 a.m. to noon Saunday. You might be surprised by what is buried under the hills of the park. the hike is good for spree credit.

On Sunday, from 2:30 to 4 p.m., find out what dwells in the depths of Springfield Bog ... and it may not be as creepy as you think. Join a hike to learn about these not-so-spooky creatures. Good for spree credit. The park is at 1400 Portage Line Road.

On Thursday, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., join a naturalist to create a seasonal work of pumpkin art at Goodyear Heights Metro Park, 2077 Newton St.. It's B.Y.O.P. (pumpkin, that is) or register to receive a free pumpkin, while supplies last. Limit one free pumpkin per family. Some carving utensils will be provided. Advance registration is required.

On Oct. 20, sit around the campfire and hear some nighttime tales from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at F.A. Seiberling Nature Realm, 1828 Smith Road. Enjoy the warmth of a fire and roast marshmallows afterward, while supplies last.

Peace through drumming

The North Canton Public Library is hosting Warrior Beat and a number of veterans who have found hope and healing through the organization's drum therapy program. The Drumming for Heroes fundraiser will be from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 19 at the library, 185 N. Main St. Attendees will get a chance to meet with area veterans, bid on drums and join a drum circle.
