GREEN The carpet is being rolled out and the final construction dust is being swept away as Brier Creek will hold a grand opening celebration Sept. 28.
John Warmus, of Warmus Builders, had a vision to bring independent living to Green and he has done just that with the construction of Brier Creek, which sits on 85-acres on Boettler Road. The building, which features 58 suites for those 55 and older, consists of studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments. The apartments feature a single-story floorplan with full-size appliances in the kitchen.
Entering the building, high ceilings and a lodge-like feeling will greet residents. There are large barn doors that slide to enter into the pub. Also off the main entrance is the dining room, which will seat 150 people and offers a large outdoor patio for additional seating during nice weather.
"We really wanted to create a lodge feel here," Warmus said.
Another aspect of Brier Creek, Warmus stressed, is how each room flows and many spaces can be opened up for overflow seating for an event. Plentiful windows make up each suite in addition to the hallways.
Sidewalks already line the street into Brier Creek, but Warmus plans to add a walking trail around the entire building.
"We are big on nature here," Warmus said.
Each floor has a laundry room and housekeepers will wash sheets and towels once per week for residents. There is also some covered parking, a full-service salon fitness center, a grab-and-go cafe for a quick snack and a pub. The mailboxes are inside the building so that during the winter residents do not have to go out into the snow and cold.
Other features for each room include pre-wired telephone and cable TV, spacious closets, secure storage, designated grilling area and individually climate controlled rooms. Most rooms also have a patio or balcony.
Warmus said his goal was to offer everything for residents. The monthly rent includes a food allowance, which can be used in the restaurant, pub or the grab-and-go café. Bob Scofield, former owner of the 356 Fighter Group, will be the head chef.
Throughout the construction of Brier Creek, Warmus said some information was collected during marketing sessions about what residents might want independent housing to look like.
"I built this like I was going to live here," Warmus said. "It is a lifestyle we are trying to create here."
Warmus purchased the property almost five-years-ago and spent a year rezoning, another year putting in infrastructure and then the last year and a half have consisted of construction.
"We are very encouraged by the leases so far," Warmus said. "We have 15 commitments and we haven’t even opened our doors yet."
Warmus already has a plan to expand and add 30-units to the east and 30-units to the west of the building. He said there are closets on each floor near where the expansion would be added on, so the closet could be taken out after construction and converted to a walkway. The benefit of designing it this way too Warmus said is that when the addition is constructed, it won’t disrupt the current residents.
