LAKE TWP.  During the regular meeting on Sept. 18, the Lake Local Schools Board of Education authorized several supplemental contracts for the upcoming school year.

The positions filled are for non-licensed/non-certificated persons pending completion of all legal requirements and include physical education coordinators, K-5 grade level coordinators, activities personnel, mentor teachers and support teachers. Activities personnel include newspaper advisors, student council advisors, science and engineering club advisors, Power of the Pen advisors, Spanish Club advisors, assistant speech and debate coach and academic team advisors.

OTHER ACTIONS: 

- Approved sending the five-year forecast to the Ohio Department of Education.

- Approved three trips, including: High school overnight trip to Washington, D.C., for an extensive visit to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, National Art Museum and Smithsonian Native American Museum for Nov. 17 and 18. Cost is approximately $240 per student and will be paid by the students; middle school overnight trip to Philadelphia-Gettysburg-Hershey, Pa. The date of the trip is March 15-17. Cost is approximately $385 per student and will be paid by the students; and middle school overnight trip to Camp Y-Noah. The date of the trip is October 25-28. Cost is approximately $148 per student and will be paid by the students.

- Board members commended Superintendent Kevin Tobin, the administration and the staff for the district’s state report card that was released along with all other report cards on all Ohio districts last week. Tobin said that the district was ranked 49th out of 608 districts in the performance index, which was the highest ranking in Stark County.
