Comedy meets music

Southern Gospel fans are invited to a comedic and musical night at 7 p.m. Sept. 15 with the Tribute Quartet and Tim Lovelace at the Barberton CHM Event Center. Tickets are buy one get one and prices begin at $13. Nationally known recording artist Tribute Quartet has become one of the country’s most dynamic and beloved male quartets in all of gospel music. As a Grammy and Dove nominated artist, Tim Lovelace has been described as the most versatile comedian on stage today. Tim is also the host of the national TV hit, "The Music City Show," aired weekly on five syndicated networks, including RFD’s FamilyNet, NRB and Heartland. Recently inking a deal with StowTown Records as its first comedian, the upcoming release of his new comedy DVD, "Living in a Coffee World," features material that is not only hilarious, but also family friendly. Kayak the Cuyahoga

Paddle the Cuyahoga River at the Gorge to see towering rock ledges and breathtaking scenery from your kayak. There are two times for the event: from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 to 3 p.m. Sept. 17. The trip will be led by a certified instructor and a naturalist. Minimum age is 13; ages 13 to 17 must be with an adult participant. Participants must wear closed-toe shoes and be able to swim. Bring water, sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses and wear clothes that can get wet. Fee includes use of kayak, paddle, life jacket and instruction. Space is limited and cost: $15/person. Ladies Night Out

The American Red Cross of Summit, Portage, and Medina Counties will host the perfect philanthropic Ladies Night Out featuring a variety of designer theme-filled purses, from clutches to carryalls, at the ninth annual Power of the Purse silent auction and bling bazaar. The event will take place at 6 p.m. Sept. 21 at Weymouth Country Club, 3946 Weymouth Road, Medina, and will raise funds to help local families prevent, prepare for and cope with disasters, like home fires or floods. Tickets are $50 per seat. Reserve a table of 8 for $400, or table of 10 for $500. Tickets include hors d’oeuvres, wine, soft drinks and dessert. A cash bar will also be available.
