GREEN At the August Green Board of Education meeting, members heard a presentation from Director of Technology Marc Clendaniel related to a new, updated website.
Clendaniel outlined the need for the new site to comply with federal guidelines with regard to the American Disabilities Act (ADA) and to streamline various procedures and access for parents. It will allow easier access to registration and verification of information. In addition, older information no longer needed will be eliminated. The Oneview parent portal will hopefully be fully functional by the new year under the direction of Clendaniel and Scott Aten. The five-year Agreement will be with Infinite Cohesion/eSchoolView and will be paid out of the permanent improvement fund. Cost for a one-time setup fee is $7,200 with a yearly cost of $22,792.
With no honors and recognitions due to it being the start of the new school year, the board moved into the consent calendar which was passed unanimously. Superintendent Jeff Miller commended retiring Special Education Aide Dianna Stalcup, who retired in August, for her years of service.
Miller commented on the start of the school year and singled out Faith Weber for her work in handling a radio failure on opening day with the buses. In addition, he praised the great work of the staff during the first week of school.
In other business, the board:
- Approved participation in the Ohio Schools Council (OSC) cooperative bus purchasing program. They authorized the OSC to advertise and receive bids on the Board's behalf for purchasing school bus chassis and bodies per submitted specifications.
- Approved the disposal of two buses with 20 years of service. It was pointed out that the average age of school buses in Ohio is 15 years and that Green has been fortunate to keep its fleet in such good shape due to the staff at the bus garage. Approval was also given for the 2017-18 bus routes, and to make changes as needed.
- Approved a contract with the Cuyahoga County Educational Service Center to provide services for the visually impaired students.
The meeting was then adjourned without executive session after numerous comments by various board members on a variety of topics. The next board meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Sept. 25 in council chambers at the Central Administration Bulding.
