A South Boulevard woman, 21, was charged Aug. 28 with possession of a controlled substance and obstructing official business. Police said they found the woman under the influence of alcohol or drugs during a traffic stop on Fulton Road. She was described as having red, glassy eyes and slurred speech. During her arrest, she was ordered to set her phone on the trunk of the car but instead set it inside the vehicle, then attempted to flee.
A dealer license plate was reported stolen Aug. 28 from a Whipple Avenue car leasing company.
A Wonderland Avenue man told police Aug. 28 that a neighbor man threatened to beat him up and have his dog attack him for cutting down trees at the property line. An officer listened to a recording of the incident but heard no direct threats. The neighbors were advised to have no further contact with one another.
A Cuyahoga Falls woman, 33, was booked into the Stark County Jail Aug. 27 on a domestic violence charge. Police said she slapped her live-in partner in the face several times and tried to strangle her with a towel during an altercation at a Sunset Strip Avenue motel. The victim had visible injuries on her face and head.
A $200 bicycle was reported stolen Aug. 27 from the rear of an Everhard Road restaurant.
A Canton man, 27, was charged Aug. 27 with theft and criminal trespass. Security personnel at a Mega Street department store told police the man tried to leave without paying for three sets of bed sheets. The man had been banned from the store last year for another alleged shoplifting offense.
A Canton woman told police she was choked by a bouncer while being ejected from a Hills and Dales Road bar on Aug. 26.
On Aug. 25, a Texas man told police a woman who spent the night with him at a Metro Circle hotel left the next morning with his rental car and $160 from his wallet. He had met the woman only two days before, he said.
An Akron man, 24, was arrested on a theft charge Aug. 25 after he allegedly attempted to steal nine pairs of jeans from a store at the Belden Village Mall. The jeans were valued at approximately $450.
Police were called to a Strip Avenue home improvement store after a man reportedly removed a sump pump off a shelf and tried to return it to customer service for cash. When the return was denied, the man left with the item without paying. An employee identified the man from previous thefts and a warrant was being sought for his arrest, police said.
A Wisconsin man reported his credit card was stolen while he was at an Everhard Road hotel on Aug. 24. He found out about the theft after being notified by his credit union about several "odd" charges on the account.
A Massillon woman reported someone "keyed" the passenger side doors on her vehicle while she was coaching a softball game at a Fulton Drive park Aug. 24.
On Aug. 23, police responded to a call of a man using drugs in a restroom at a Dressler Road store. Officers found a man who appeared to be under the influence of something in front of a nearby store. The man reportedly admitted to being a meth user. During a pat down, officers found him in possession of eight used hypodermic needs. He was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and released to a relative.
Police were called to the 4400 block of Portage Street Northwest Aug. 23 to check on a man passed out behind the steering wheel of a running car in a store parking lot. During the investigation, police allegedly found the man in possession of crack cocaine, marijuana and crystal methamphetamine. The 53-year-old Cleveland man was arrested on felony counts of possession of cocaine and aggravated possession of drugs and a misdemeanor count of possession of a controlled substance.
A Canal Fulton woman reported her purse was stolen after she accidentally left in an aisle at a Dressler Road store Aug. 23.
A 63-year-old Canton woman was charged with theft Aug. 23 at a Dressler Road department store. Police said she was seen using cosmetic scissors to cut sales tags off items in the jewelry department. The items were found in her purse after she was stopped while trying to leave without paying, police said.
Police responded to a rash of personal property thefts on Aug. 23. A Cherry Drive man reported a $4,000 golf cart was stolen from his driveway. He also said a GPS unit and loose change were taken from his sport utility vehicle. Another resident on the same street reported a laptop computer and checkbook were taken from his vehicle. On Miles Avenue Northwest, three phone chargers and a Bluetooth headset, total value $90, were reported taken from an unlocked car. On the same street, a man reported a $300 handgun was stolen from his vehicle.
A Canton woman, 20, was charged Aug. 22 with domestic violence. Police said she struck her boyfriend three times in the mouth with the back of her hand while they were arguing in a car on Frank Avenue.
A Sherlin Avenue Northeast man reported a golf bag with clubs, total value $390, was stolen from his vehicle Aug. 22. On the same day, another resident on the street told police someone smashed a window on her car and snatched her purse.
A 71-year-old Canton woman was charged with disorderly conduct Aug. 22 after police said they found her intoxicated in a parking lot on Belpar Street Northwest.
