The Green Local School District is teaming up with Blind and Sons and the Rubber City Radio Group to honor and pay tribute to veterans, military personnel and first responders before and during the Sept. 8 football game between Green and visiting Orange at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Ray Horner, WAKR's morning talk show hose will be broadcasting live from the Westside Bakery from 6-10 a.m. He will interview key people responsible for the expansion at Veteran's Memorial Park, local first responders and officials from the city and school district. Discussions will include the role of first responders serving in Houston in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, as well as remembering 9/11.

Pregame activities, organized by the Rubber City Radio Group, will begin at 4 p.m. in the parking lot of the Central Adminstration Building adjacent to Central Park. It will feature a food truck rodeo, with six popular food trucks. The Green Veteran’s Memorial Park committee will be selling pins and chances to win airlines tickets courtesy of Sprint Airlines. Proceeds will benefit the park. Members of the Green High School marching band will provide entertainment prior to game time. 97.5-FM WONE will be on hand for a remote broadcast with special giveaways and prizes until 6 p.m.

Green Local Schools is welcoming Veterans, members of the military, National Guard, and first responders to be their guests at the football game. Individuals in military of first responder uniforms, and all veterans, will receive free admission, be escorted onto to the field and introduced during pregame ceremonies and receive special commemorative items.

Kickoff is 7:00 p.m. and participants are being asked to report to the west ticket gate by 6:15 p.m.
