David Scholar Program awards about $1.4 million each year to Stark County students going to college.

One of Stark County's largest post-secondary education philanthropic organizations has awarded more than 50 scholarships to Stark County high school graduates. The Paul & Carol David Foundation named 53 Stark County graduates to its David Scholar Program. Each student will receive a $7,000 scholarship, renewable for four years.

The late Paul David, who founded the Camelot Music retail store chain that he eventually sold in 1993, and his wife, Carol, created the David Scholar program in 1980 with the intent to assist Stark County students, who might not otherwise be able to pursue a post-secondary education.

This year's scholarships, combined with the renewable scholarships for previous recipients, amounts to about $1.4 million that is awarded to Stark County students annually by the Paul & Carol David Foundation.

Students must maintain a 2.5 grade-point average and be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours.

Applications for new David Scholars will be accepted online via the foundation’s website starting in October and is open to all students who are attending a Stark County high school. Visit www.davidscholar.org for more information.
