Inclusion Day at Derby Downs
- Inclusion Day will be held at Derby Downs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 12. The free event is for youth with all different abilities and their siblings, giving them the opportunity to ride down the 989-foot Derby Downs Track in a dual-operated Soap Box Derby car. Offered at the event is a place where families can enjoy lunch, entertainment and other activities that encourage involvement and inclusion. Requirements for riders are they must be ages 5 or older, weigh less than 185 pounds, must be able to wear a helmet and be able to ride down the Soap Box Derby track with trained pilot. Join in the fun of the Metro Park's Touch-A-Truck day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 12. All ages can touch and sit in more than a dozen Summit Metro Parks vehicles as well as local law enforcement vehicles and Air Bear from Akron Children’s Hospital will make a special appearance! Learn to weave
Kids 9 to 12 have the opportunity to learn basic weaving techniques to complete a basket from 9:30 a.m. to noon and teens ages 13 to 17 from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 16 at Firestone Metro Park/Coventry Oaks Area. Bring a small flathead screwdriver, needle-nose pliers, towel and a two gallon bucket, if possible. The cost is $15 and registration is required.
