LAKE TWP.  Swing a golf club, sponsor a golf hole, or enjoy dinner during a third annual charity golf outing in memory of 2014 Lake High School graduate Zachary Doherty set for July 29 at Tam O’Shanter golf course in Jackson Township.

There will also be a silent auction of gift baskets, and dinner will also be provided as part of the event, along with door prizes, a raffle, and 50/50 drawing. One special item to be included during the silent auction will be one flight lesson to learn to fly an airplane.

The cost per golfer to enter is $75. Three hole sponsorships (each costing $100) are also still available. Golfer registration begins at noon, followed by a shotgun start at 1 p.m. During the day, $400 cash prizes will be awarded for team champions; golf game challenges include closest to the pin, longest drive, mulligans, skins game and a four-person scramble.

Non-golfers are also invited to attend and enjoy dinner only, at a cost of $20 per person, as well as bid on silent auction items. The buffet meal, beginning at 6 p.m., will include baked chicken, sausage and peppers, redskin potatoes, rigatoni, salad and a roll. The deadline to register for the golf event or dinner only is July 25.  Download an event flyer with registration info at thezacharydohertymemorialscholarshipfund.org.

One hundred percent of the event’s proceeds after expenses will go to the non-profit Zachary Doherty Memorial Scholarship Fund so it can award student scholarships, including two for outstanding Lake band members, and one for an outstanding Lake Advanced Placement student. These were programs and classes that Doherty, who graduated summa cum laude, enjoyed while attending Lake High School. All donations to the scholarship fund are tax deductible.

Last year’s charity golf outing raised $8,000.

"We hope to exceed last year’s total. There are lots of things students need today," said Pamela Doherty, Zach’s mother in a news release. "This is a family friendly event – we hope to see kids there."
